The cardiovascular system is based around three components:

1. The Heart (the pump).

2. Blood Vessels (the tube network).

3. The Blood (the transport medium).

The cardiovascular system's primary functions are to transport oxygen and nutrients around the body. In addition to this the cardiovascualr system has a role to play in removing waste products, temperature regulation, distribution of antibodies and the carrying of hormonal messages.
